A weird intro but one nonetheless!

Hi! I'm Cat, the Outbreak series were pretty much one of my childhood games, and I'm looking forward to getting into it online at last! I do have two questions that I couldn't find an answer to on the wiki by myself, that I thought I should ask before delving into troubleshooting as to not get myself confused. That, and I am unfortunately too far in my previous File 1 save file to justify moving to my new Japanese ISO, but hey! It's good practice, right? (Unless save files are shared between different versions in PCSX2 somehow, but that feels fairly impossible)

-Is the entire set-up available for a Linux OS? Is there any issues with playing through Linux instead of Windows?
-Do I need to keep the set-up software and/or run it every time I play or is it an one-time use?
-Does the BIOS location version matter at all?

Also, one more thing about the File 3 characters, how do I go about unlocking them for the American version? I know there's a pnach file in the wiki for this, but I assume that's for the Japanese version. Looking through the web just gives me codes I can't decrypt into raw because the app for that is WIndows-only, and trying it to do more manually gives me nothing but a black screen behind the character selection screen. Just so I can test out some of the characters I've never seen while I roll for the 20th time in a row if I get the scream in the clothing store lmao

Sorry if there's any rule here I've broken, if there is, I can make a quick edit! And one more apology if this is too much right out of the gate hahahahahah

Welcome!

The only aspect of the experience not working on Linux is the "Quick-loading" method described here, https://wiki.obsrv.org/index.php?n=Setup.QuickLoading, but the other method for faster load times, installing to a virtual HDD, works fine: https://wiki.obsrv.org/index.php?n=Setup.HDDInstall

No, JP or US is fine.

May as well move to JP version since that's the version that works online anyway.

What set-up software?
I mean the HDLoader and OPL, required for setting up the network file (I believe?) and faster loading

Those are two applications that you can use for faster loading if you are using the HDD method. Neither is required to play, but you do have to use them every time if you are going to use the HDD method. https://obsrv.org/wiki/index.php?n=Setup.Pcsx2HDD

I see! I think I'll play a few games without it to see if there's any issue with the loading from offline to online play and decide from there, I have a lot to get to now that I'm finally done with #1!
