Once DNAS is gone for good and we start requiring the DNAS bypass to play, there should be some kind of security measure to prevent non legit owners from playing. Like, maybe, on registration for the board require the player to answer a password on registration that asks for the "PDSS" code imprinted on the back of the disc around the rim. That way only people with actual Outbreak discs will know.

First off, my apologies. I reread my old messages just to double check and it wasn't you, but someone who ended up getting banned for begging for ISOs.

Second, stop being so rude. This isn't a hostile community. I personally wouldn't try to get banned when its the only way to play outbreak online anymore.

Third, I do have buddies at Sony. I used to work with Insomniac Games while doing college work in Cali, now I work marketing for MintCookie Games Pittsburgh location in Pennsylvania. I also had the unfortunate embarrassment of working for Boxer8 for three months before they "Shut Down". Boxer8 made the garbage Ouya.

Don't act like you know me because you don't. I have my name credited in at least 15 indie projects. :))
Gonna be done with this convo though. Not worth the text.

I am still worried about the Vanilla set-up to go offline. You people have no idea that there is many players who play like that including myself. Just because you see the majority of the people on the shoutbox and forums whom play on emulator and HDD does not mean it's majority of the community. Look at the Japanese Community whom I seen load as fast as me and several non asian players whom still roam the server. This is insane, for the first time I am taking baby steps in getting HDD but it seems like the efforts of it have thwarted in the past year or so. Problem is I broke my slim ps2 trying to set up swap magic years ago, I don't want to recreate another destruction for a console. The moment I have a fat ps2 with the translation patch put in place. Something remarkable will happend in this server, I can feel it! And for those people who know me I have been saying I been wanting to get HDD for the past three years! :D

Yea I enjoy playing the vanilla way. If I wanted to play it like all other people I would keep playing on emulator. I like the retro old school feeling of playing with the disc on legit console.

Well, I cannot promise anything regarding DNAS...

I made some major breakthroughs and will continue to work on it, but it's complex matter and full of nasty tricks. And I don't have a lot of time I can spent on this project. So far I am able to present the console specially crafted SSL certificates and send answers through an established encryption channel. But creating the correct answer packets for DNAS still needs some work. I found out the generic structure but not the correct content. Currently I face DNAS error -401.

If I succeed we'll have a permanent solution for every game in every region, even games who weren't supported by the official servers anymore could pass the DNAS check again. Regarding plain vanilla setups this wouldn't need any patching, just the usual DNS entry!

No that is not the same subject. Hes saying any game that has DNAS built-in (when DNAS goes down) could still get passed it with a vanilla setup, without any mods or bypass patches.

So Japan, USA and European versions could play on the same server?
Only if the games use the same game protocol. That's not the case for Outbreak and many others. But without support for DNAS no legit disc will be able to play online unless it's patched. So having a replacement for the original DNAS server would be huge.

I'm not getting it right.

DNAS servers going offline will only affect games that still uses the service, but it won't affect Outbreak File #1 and File #2 because there's the DNAS check skip patch, right?
