RESIDENT OUTBREAK ntsc

Postby Blitz » Sat May 14, 2016 6:00 pm

Hey there Outbreak fellows.

So here's the thing...I've always wondered why can't one create a server for the NTSC/U--AMERICAN version of both the Outbreak F1 & F2 ??
I don't know why did one create the server only for the NTSC/J japanese version of Outbreak F1 and F2.
Not to mention there are always glitches and bugs on the Translated Patches meant for the Japanese version of the game.
Is it so impossible to create a server for the American--NTSC/U version?

The packet captures collected from the NTSC-J server is what made reviving it again possible. While it's possible to reverse engineer the NTSC-U server, the huge amount of effort required simply just isn't worth it considering we have a fully functional server already.

Also, what bugs and glitches are you "always" seeing in the translation patches? I'm curious.

Like Stuntman said, it's a huge amount of work. The cause is the totally different middleware. While the NTSC-J versions use KDDI, the NTSC-U and PAL versions use SN@P. We used packet captures from game sessions on the original servers, but nobody seems to have such captures for the other versions. I'm reconstructing the SN@P protocol for "academic " reasons but there's no timeline for showable results. In the current state of emulation I can play single player online, but multiplayer doesn't work.

Don't expect any news on this topic from me in the near future. My current project is the total replacement of DNAS (which makes great progress, more on this later).

Any packet captures from the NTSC version would be tremendously helpful, but I won't be holding my breath for them.

There's literally no point in doing an ntsc version since the japanese version is pretty much completely translated. All it would do is make it harder to find games with few benefits.

This would be great but would be a lot more difficult.

this is why I want to turn the NTSC-J version into NTSC-U as much as possible through modding... While it may be more accurate to the game, I still dislike the "Biohazard" name/logo; mostly because I grew up knowing the franchise as resident evil and it gives me a little twinge in my heart whenever I hear biohazard, as if a part of me died.

of course there are going to be people who say "Who cares, its outbreak so be happy with what you got. the japanese version is superior because everything the japanese makes is better than america"

I definitely am in the camp for "Resident Evil" over the name Biohazard.

Although I do think the JPN version is superior hands down. File 2 NTSC was gimped in a few ways in that ad libs were not vocalized, just text on screen - only basic commands were vocal :/ Fairly boring. A minor addition: KDDI server also had private messaging, which I actually use and enjoy. There also was an instance in the NTSC SNAP servers where using a Mark block against Thanny2 dash attack would cause instant zombie screen. KDDI this didn't happen. So the net code wasn't even as good either.

The one and only thing I miss is that sweet small font. Typing online on the JPN version sucks.

If NTSC File 2 ever goes online, I will make available my adlibs patch which restore all the character voices in the USA version.

Since there are next to no existing packet captures of the original Sn@p servers, recreating them is incredibly difficult. There's a higher chance that Capcom will release a remastered Outbreak than of the English copies getting a private server.

Hello good morning, I wanted to tell you that they did an excellent job, I'm very recently in the server, I hope we keep growing, this is and will always be an excellent game, many thanks to all those who made it possible to make it come back, there is some way to collaborate in the project?
