ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY ON USING TURBO/DISABLING THE FRAMELIMITER

Postby Silent Hell » Tue Sep 24, 2019 2:29 am

It has come to my attention that there has been a rampant use of turbo during online matches. While turbo has always been considered against the rules, it has gotten so bad that this topic needs its own thread, unfortunately.

For those that are unaware, turbo is an emulator hack in PCSX2 that disables the game's frame limiter causing the game to run faster than it should. Turbo can be activated by pressing [TAB] on your keyboard. Pressing [F4] on your keyboard disables the frame limiter for even faster speeds. Using these gives players an immense amount of control over the flow of the entire game. It can cause extreme enemy lag, desyncs, and gives turbo users a massive advantage over other players than players using HDD loading speeds. It is pretty obvious why such a feature can be considered detrimental to the overall experience of the games.

Knowing this, from this point onward, any users caught using turbo or disabling the frame limiter will be permanently banned. Turbo should be immediately disabled once you enter a lobby and should remain off for the remainder of a game. The frame limiter should be enabled for the entirety of the games as well. Your game speed should never exceed 100% on the emulator.

If you want faster loading times, consider using these permitted alternatives:
  • Enable Fast CDVD in emulator settings
  • Official HDD install through the games themselves (although will be limited to only playing with other official HDD install users)
  • Launching the game through Open PS2 Loader or HDLoader
If you feel like you've been unfairly banned for turbo/disabling frame limiter, send all appeals to unbanme@obsrv.org

Turbo will turn on pressing TAB even if you have it disabled in the settings. So avoid pressing TAB entirely while playing. I've hit it accidentally because I use ALT+TAB to switch between the game and the Chatroom.

To the people scared they will get banned for accidents, we don't have an automated banning system for turbo. These cases aren't judged in a vacuum. Of course each case will be investigated before making decisions. This is how bans have always been performed.

For those who wish to have faster loading times I highly recommend using the HDLoader/OPL. This will enable you to load just as fast as HDD speeds as if you are playing on HDD with either Outbreak game, while still playing DVD games on OBSRV just like everyone else does. This process is a one time deal and is very worth it in the long run if you want faster loading times.

viewtopic.php?f=13&t=3848 <<<<<<<<<<< Here is where you can begin. Follow the "HDLoader/OPL section" in big red texts and follow steps 1-18. Any of those who are having trouble with this process, feel free to private message me via OBSRV or by catching me when I am online in the chat.

*****FURTHER NOTE*****
DO NOT ASK FOR DOWNLOAD LINKS TO THE GAMES OR BIOS FILES! THESE ARE AGAINST THE RULES AND WILL RESULT TO BANNING!

You can also go to PCSX2's settings and adjust the Turbo and Slowdown speeds to 100% to avoid triggering Turbo on accident by pressing TAB.

THANK GOD !

Honestly surprised this wasn't ban-worthy before.
Hopefully we'll see a lot less people using Turbo during games.

It was already difficult to deal with bad behaviors (such as constant HELP spam, refusing to give items etc), but when the same people were using Turbo, it was just too much.

It would be nice if this new rule would make people come back to the game, from what i've noticed a lot of people stopped playing, and, to be fair, it's easy to understand why.

It was a ban worthy offense. But not permaban. Clearly it needs to be.

I propose a solution to the problem that the speed changes by accidentally pressing the TAB key or F4 key.
It also solves the problem of closing the emulation window with the ESC key.

It is a method of rewriting the contents of the "PCSX2_key.ini" file in the "inis_1.4.0" folder where PCSX2 is installed.

However, the key function cannot be disabled.
Change key assignments to reduce keystroke errors.
For example, the TAB key is a toggle key of the frame limiter turbo, but its function is changed to CTRL + TAB key.

This is a sample description of an ini file.

States_FreezeCurrentSlot = Ctrl-F1
States_DefrostCurrentSlot = Ctrl-F3
States_DefrostCurrentSlotBackup = Ctrl-Shift-F3
States_CycleSlotForward = Ctrl-F2
States_CycleSlotBackward = Ctrl-Shift-F2

Frameskip_Toggle = Ctrl-Shift-F4
Framelimiter_TurboToggle = Ctrl-TAB
Framelimiter_SlomoToggle = Ctrl-Shift-TAB
Framelimiter_MasterToggle = Ctrl-F4

FullscreenToggle = Alt-ENTER

Sys_Suspend = PAUSE
